Is 1st Place Worth
Fighting For?
John the Baptist
John 1:29-39; John 3:23-36; Luke 7:18-23
“He must become greater and greater, and I must become less
and less.”
John 3:30
Jesus called them together and said, "You know that in this
world kings are tyrants, and officials lord it over the people
beneath them. But
among you it should be quite different. Whoever wants to be a
leader among you must be your servant,
and whoever wants to be first must become your slave.
For even I, the Son of Man, came here not to be served
but to serve others, and to give my life as a ransom for
many."
Matthew 20:25-28
I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to
you. How true it
is that a servant is not greater than the master. Nor are
messengers more important than the one who sends them.
You know these things — now do them! That is the path
of blessing.
John 13:15-17
He sat down and called the twelve disciples over to him. Then
he said, "Anyone who wants to be the first must take last
place and be the servant of everyone else.”
Mark 9:35
The greatest among you must be a servant.
But those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and
those who humble themselves will be exalted.
Matthew 23:11-12
