Looking Up from a Mess Up
Week 3
Psalms 107
The People Who Hurt
I. The Helpless and Wandering (4-9)
Those who were wandering; looking for a
good place to dwell
II. The Rebellious and Disobedient
(10-16)
Those who were suffering because
of their rebellion against God's Words.
They were subjected to bondage because
of their disobedience
III. The Foolish and Ignorant (17-22)
Those who out of foolishness &
ignorance
suffered afflictions of mind/body
Some were fools in their rebellion; they
suffered for their sins. Their appetites
were gone, and death was near.
"LORD, help!" they cried in their
trouble, and He saved them from their
distress. He spoke, and they were healed
— snatched from the door of death.
Psalms 107:17-19
God disciplines people with sickness and pain, with ceaseless aching in
their bones. They lose their appetite
and do not care for even the most
delicious food. They waste away to skin
and bones. They are at death's door; the
angels of death wait for them.
Job 33:19-22
They have bought the devil's lie that
there is no hope for them. They are
ready to give up and die.
LOOK UP … CRY OUT … THEN WORSHIP
The People Who Look Up, The People Who
Cry Out, the God Who Hears,
and the natural response (WORSHIP).
Let them praise the LORD for His great
love and for all His wonderful deeds to
them. Let them offer sacrifices of
thanksgiving and sing joyfully about His
glorious acts.
Psalms 107:21-22
3 Acts of Worship:
1. The first type of worship is
THANKING Him for what He has done for
you;
What I want instead is your true
thanks to God; I want you to fulfill
your vows to the Most High. Trust Me
in your times of trouble, and I will
rescue you, and you will give me glory."
Psalms 50:14-15
2. Worship includes telling others of
God's wonderful work in their lives.
3. This is frequently not considered
worship at all, but I would like to
suggest that the crying out itself is an
act of worship.
True worship is humbling oneself before
God, admitting that you are powerless to
do anything, and pleading for His help.
