The Journey
Week 2
The Halfway Point
Halfway out of Egypt:
-
The Israelites on their journey out of Egypt became
anxious and impatient on the way.”
-
The Israelites have forgotten that they are on their way
home to the Promised Land.
-
They have lost sight of the purpose and meaning of their
journey.
-
God got there attention with a bunch of snakes.
-
The journey of the Israelites is not over, but it has
gained new significance and purpose.
Jesus and His Journey:
What was the halfway point for Him?
"Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering
away from me. Yet I want your will, not mine."
Luke 22:42
“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
Mark 15:34
His Journey Gives Us Strength for Our Own Journey:
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of
witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight
that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily hinders
our progress. And let us run with endurance the race that God
has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, on
Whom our faith depends from start to finish. He was willing to
die a shameful death on the cross because of the joy He knew
would be His afterward. Now He is seated in the place of
highest honor beside God's throne in heaven. Think about all
He endured when sinful people did such terrible things to Him,
so that you don't become weary and give up.
Hebrews 12:1-3
Don’t Give Up Halfway!
Jesus reminds His followers that halfway measures aren’t
enough in the life of a Christian. It takes everything – all
that we are and all that we have.
We don’t have time this morning to recount all the ways Jesus
says this …
“Let me burry my father” “But Jesus told him, "Anyone who puts
a hand to the plow and then looks back is not fit for the
Kingdom of God."
Luke 9:62
If you love your father or mother more than you love me, you
are not worthy of being mine; or if you love your son or
daughter more than me, you are not worthy of being mine. If
you refuse to take up your cross and follow me, you are not
worthy of being mine. If you cling to your life, you will lose
it; but if you give it up for me, you will find it.
Matthew 10:37-39
